You're Too Close To Your Work

There are more than 50 iterations of my headline.

An early one sounded like: I help streetwear fashion brands sell an idea that attracts high-value customers

It needed some work...

My current one is: I help streetwear brand owners turn their side hustle into a full-time career

And you've been with me throughout this process.

The craziest part is that it'll likely change again.

And much because I keep popping the question:

"if I tell you my elevator pitch, can you tell me what you think I actually do?".

I often present my headline to those around me - strangers, friends, family - to see if it's clear and concise enough that they understand it on the first try.

Because I'm too close to my work.

I get what I'm trying to say. But I'm not my audience.

So the only way to improve, at some point, is to let others into the process.

My point is this:

The problem with being too close to your work is that you don't see it's flaws.

That is why it's so important to build partnerships,

to create a community of supporters around us.

Because getting outside feedback could mean the difference between a sell out drop, and leftover boxes of stock in your garage.
