The Cost of Attention

We say "PAY attention" because there is a price.

It's a trap to think that our audience's attention is of an endless supply.

That publishing doesn't cost us anything.

But really, it's a test!

When an individual gives your their attention through engaging with a post, for example, they are looking to see if they are willing to give it again or not.

In other words, the attention of an individual costs something.

Heck, I send daily emails!

If your attention was wasted here, you'd unsubscribe quite quickly.

Here's the thing:

Publishing is about building trust.

It's showing your people that their attention is valued in your space.

Because when an individual is glad they gave you their attention

they will give it to you again.

My point is this:

If your community gives you the gift of their attention

and you treat it well,

building trust through delivering valuable content specifically to THEM,

they will give it again

and more often

and for longer amounts of time

so that every now and then

when you DO ask for their attention for your next clothing campaign

they may ACTUALLY pay (attention).
