Snake Tales

Starting a blog is the key to uncovering your Big Idea. Yes we're still talking about streetwear.

I while ago I wrote an email about the benefits of starting a blog as a streetwear brand.

But I realise when I say "blog", there is something tacky about it.

It carries some negative connotations that just shouldn't be associated with streetwear.

Take a look at The Snake Hole:

They've called their blog "Snake Tales".

Original. On brand. It's perfect.

I particularly loved the post called Catching Up With Tristan River.

It's less about The Snake Hole

and more about Tristan River.

Exactly how it should be.

Here's the thing:

For streetwear brands that sell a lifestyle

(which, by the way, I believe is the best way to build any kind of community)

a blog is really good way to do so.

If you're like most of the streetwear brands I work with, a major objection to marketing an ideology, lifestyle, or brand ethos is not knowing how to nor having the time to find out.

I mean, content brainstorming ALREADY takes up at least an hour of your week (on a good day).

And how could you possible find any more time in your over full schedule.

Heck, even if you did, where would you start!?

But if I could give you one reflection on how writing this daily email has served me, I'll tell you that I have learnt how to communicate my ideas in a way that wasn't possible before.

I just didn't know how.

And now I do! Well... At least a little better than before.

See if this helps:

If you have SOME idea of what your brand's Big Idea is,

even if it's not totally clear yet,

just start a blog about it.

Make it a page on your website for the superfans to read.

It doesn't have to be perfect.

In fact, it's not going to be.

And it doesn't have to be called "blog" either.

But talk less about yourself and more about the movement you're creating. The movement being the Big Idea you seek to inspire in your more loyal followers.

But what you'll be left with

is more content ideas than you could ever dream of creating

and a community who believes in and backs what you do.

Truly,

Elijah

P.S. A "blog" doesn't have to look real fancy either. Make it quick and easy to do. Something you could create and write in 30 minutes, no more. I cut the images and graphics entirely for this reason.
