Profit Centre

If EVERYTHING has to make a profit, then NOTHING will.

The Apple Maps app loses the company money EVERY YEAR.

Development costs would be well into the 100's of mills to be modest.

So why would they continue to maintain it?

Or even build it in the first place?

Here's the thing:

Without the Apple Maps app, the iPhone wouldn't be as good.

Although it doesn't directly make the company money,

They would be at a loss not to have it.

Apple understands that if everything has to make a profit...

Then nothing will!

Not every marketing effort has to be a profit centre.

Because somethings will develop your image (i.e., brand)

Or attract that loyal customer

Who's not ready to buy just yet.

On paper it doesn't work.

So good thing we don't conduct business on paper.
