Unfortunately, most social media platforms aren't for building communities.
I can follow an account, consuming their content everyday, without even knowing their name, let alone the names of others that also enjoy the content. And I'm not a stand alone case.
I believe it's why there has been a move from TikTok and Instagram to platforms like Discord or even the real world. Streetwear brands build real communities with personal interactions.
Sam Moore from Prya Elements created a hike club - Just one way to bring together people united by a common idea embodied by the clothing. In Pyra's case: the outdoors.
The point is this:
Maybe it's time to reconsider Instagram and TikTok as recruitment
And find a new place that can hold your community.
A place where customers (members) can converse in the real world on online
I think we will find the result to be wildly profitable streetwear brands with customers (members) more satisfied than ever.
Because when they buy a garment
They're really buying a ticket into your club.
More on that tomorrow.
Truly,
Elijah
