6 degree theory, according to Wikipedia, is the idea that "people are six or fewer connections away from each other. As a result, a chain of 'friend of a friend' statements can be made to connect any two people in a maximum of six steps".
My question is how much is this amplified by social media?
May we be even more closely connected than 6?
Think about publicly posting a reel. You aren't only sharing that with followers, but also with strangers. Individuals who've never seen your stuff.
This gives you instant access to an unconnected individual and their network of connections.
My point is this:
Hypothetically speaking, your less than six shares away from the whole world. Or at least those who are using Instagram.
In fact, the only thing that separates a known brand like Nike from yourself is that they've uncovered the key to closing the gap between the individual and their direct network.
They've created something that people talk about.
Try this:
By creating content that's only a little more shareable,
you expand your network exponentially and, theoretically, without limit.
All you need is the right person to share one thing they identify with to open up a new world of opportunities.
Truly,
Elijah
P.S. If you know streetwear professional who wants to build a community behind their streetwear brand, hit forward. It makes our networks just a little more connected :).
